We work together with our patients to improve their health by delivering the best care that is affordable and accessible for them. Our staff of caring and skilled physicians, nurses, health educators, mid-wives, and nurse practitioners offers a full spectrum of health care for all ages through health maintenance, screening, disease prevention and health management.

Pediatrics

Our Pediatric Department offers primary health-care services for infants, children and adolescents.

Board certified physicians, including pediatricians, family practice doctors, pediatric and family nurse practitioners provide up-to-date pediatric care. It often happens that your primary-care physician will need you to be seen by a specialist. In many cases you will be able to make an appointment for a specialist right at your PCHC Health Center.

We offer on-site the following services:

  • Vaccinations / Immunizations – Measles, mumps, chicken pox
  • Chronic illnesses such as asthma, allergies, diabetes, anemia
  • Lead screening
  • Childhood infections
  • Accidents and injuries
  • School and sports physicals
  • Vision and Hearing screenings
  • Behavior Counseling

Adolescent Medicine

PCHC provides primary-care services for children ages 11 to 18 at all its health-center location.

PCHC also operates a school based clinic at The Metropolitan Regional Career and Technical Center (MET School).

The Providence Community Health Centers, Inc. operates a school-based clinic during the academic year at The Met School. The Adolescent Health Center serves as a “medical home” for the Met students. It serves students from ages 13 to 20. The Health Center delivers a comprehensive array of services:

  • Physical exams
  • Urgent care and sick visits
  • Immunization
  • Family planning/birth control counseling and treatment
  • STD/HIV testing, treatment and counseling
  • Health education and counseling
  • Substance-abuse counseling
  • Mental-health assessment and referral

Services are available to all students regardless of their ability to pay.

Adult Medicine

The Adult Medicine Department is composed of internists, family medicine physicians, and family nurse practitioners as well as an excellent nursing staff.

PCHC’s Adult Medicine Department takes care of most medical needs of patients older than 18, including:

  • Health maintenance
  • Management of both acute and chronic medical illnesses such as diabetes, asthma, high blood pressure, arthritis
  • Physical exams
  • Sports physicals
  • Prostate exams
  • Reproductive health
  • Sexually transmitted diseases
  • Flu shots
  • Urinary tract infections

Health Care for the Homeless

Adult medicine, dental care, behavioral health care and other supportive services are provided to adults at Crossroads Health Center.

Women's Health Care Services

This department is composed of OB/GYN physicians, Certified Nurse Midwives and specialized Nurse Practitioners. Our OB/GYN providers are staff members of Women& Infants Hospital, all are Board Certified and Board Eligible.

You don’t need to be a medical patient of the health center in order to receive women's health services.

Family Planning

Family planning is available for all patients regardless of income.

PCHC also receives funding from the Title 10 Family Planning Program, which is granted through the state Department of Health. We offer:

  • Birth Control methods (including emergency contraception)
  • Pregnancy testing and counseling
  • Family-planning education

Prenatal & Postpartum Care & Testing

  • Regular visits with the same provider for the entire pregnancy
  • Ultrasound services & testing Breastfeeding help
  • Mother’s care after birth of baby
  • Dental care during pregnancy
  • 24-hour on-call physician coverage

Gynecology Exams

  • Immunizations
  • PMS (Pre-Menstrual Syndrome)
  • STD/HIV testing
  • Infertility assessment
  • Menopause
  • Surgeries
  • GYN Ultrasounds

Women’s Cancer Screening

Women’s cancer screening is offered at most of our locations. This service is for women age 40 or older who live in Rhode Island and have no health insurance or have insurance that does not cover breast and cervical cancer screenings every year. Women’s health screening includes:

  • Clinical breast exam
  • Pap smear
  • Evaluation of abnormal PAP smears
  • Pelvic exam
  • Mammogram (breast X-ray)
  • Follow-up services

Express Clinic (Urgent Care)

If you or a family member are sick and need to see a doctor, come to PCHC Express. You don’t need to be a patient of the health center to be seen by the clinic. Find out more information about the PCHC's Express Clinic.

Other Health Care Services

  • For your convenience, Lab services are provided by East Side Lab at all of the health center locations. Please contact East Side Lab with questions about insurance coverage or billing inquiries.
  • Also for your convenience, X Ray services are provided by Advanced Radiology at Prairie Avenue only. This service is available to everyone. Please contact Advanced Radiology with questions about insurance coverage or billing inquiries.
  • EKGs
  • Routine tests and screenings (Cholesterol, Blood, Vision & Hearing, Etc.)
