Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC) Receives Funding to Reduce Indoor Air Contaminants

Great news from our friends in rural Alaska! They received funding from The Commission for Environmental Cooperation to develop a pilot project that will address respiratory illnesses through implementing various interventions in the homes to reduce exposure to airborne contaminants (wood smoke, mold, etc). They plan to implement similar projects in rural Canada and Mexico.

The pilot project will “reduce the need for respiratory medical care in severely impacted children in Alaskan Native populations and in other indigenous communities in North America. The project addresses acute and chronic respiratory conditions through interventions to reduce exposure to airborne contaminants in homes.”

Official title: “Improving Indoor Air Quality to Reduce Exposure to Airborne Contaminants, Including Fine Particulates and Chemical Compounds, in Alaskan Native Populations and other Indigenous Communities in North America”
