Plant Materials Centers Located in the West Region

Map of NRCS West RegionPlant Materials Centers (PMCs) are located in ecologically distinct service areas within the West Region. Centers, working with state ecological sciences staff, develop plants and plant technologies to restore and sustain healthy natural ecosystems. By evaluating the conservation traits of plants and technologies for using these plants, PMCs provide public and private land managers with the tools necessary to establish, manage, and conserve a range of diverse ecosystems. Plants provide the foundation for addressing many of the nation’s diverse natural resource concerns. Western PMC products restore grazing lands ravaged by wildfire with plant material that competes with invasive grasses; provide trees and shrubs for effective wind and snow breaks; restore and maintain biodiversity, increasing the ability of landscapes to handle stress from human activities; conserve and enhance critical wildlife habitat such as that of the greater sage grouse and the southwest willow flycatcher; and provide evaluations to identify plants that will establish and thrive in arid areas.
