Resources for States

Energy efficiency is an important, proven strategy widely used by states to meet a host of electric system needs. Energy efficiency strategies can substantially and cost-effectively lower energy demand and carbon dioxide emissions from the power sector.  EPA anticipates that, due to low costs and large potential, demand-side energy efficiency policies and programs will be a significant component of state strategies for meeting their goals under the Clean Power Plan. The ENERGY STAR Program has a long history of partnering with energy efficiency program implementers, providing important infrastructure and a breadth of expertise in effective program design.

Managing a Portfolio of Energy Efficiency Programs to Deliver Anticipated Savings

Energy efficiency is a valuable resource for meeting a host of electric system needs. Increased investment in energy efficiency can lower energy bills, reduce demand for fossil fuels, enhance reliability, and help reduce air pollution including greenhouse gas emissions. Learn about planning and managing energy efficiency programs as a portfolio to deliver on planned targets.

Leveraging ENERGY STAR Infrastructure

The ENERGY STAR Program makes is easy to advance more efficient products, homes, buildings and manufacturing plants by establishing performance specifications and verification requirements. The ENERGY STAR Program also makes is easy by providing unbiased information, objective measurement tools, and a framework for strategic energy management. More than 700 efficiency program sponsors throughout the nation leverage ENERGY STAR.

  • ENERGY STAR products in 70 commercial and residential product categories are independently verified to save energy without sacrificing features or functionality.
  • New homes that earn the ENERGY STAR label undergo inspection, testing, and verification to meet strict program requirements.
  • Commercial buildings that earn the ENERGY STAR perform better than 75 percent of similar buildings nationwide, and use ENERGY STAR guidance and resources to increase efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.
  • Industrial plants earn the ENERGY STAR by demonstrating top energy performance, and use ENERGY STAR guidance and resources to increase efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.
