Actually, it's more common than people might think for large sections of Alaska, especially near the coastline in the southern half of the state, to be warmer and to get less snow than, say, Syracuse, New York or Bemidji, Minn. That said, the weather does seem to have flopped upside down this January.Yahoo News shared a link.

This picture of twin toilets in a men's restroom in Sochi has gone viral, mostly out of curiosity and amusement as to why two toilets would be located side-by-side in a single stall. One joke says it's a nod to tight security measures imposed for the Olympics -- the second toilet is for a security officer.- There are heroes, and then there are those whose acts of self-sacrifice give hope for the long-term survival of the human race. Remember this name: Tyler Doohan. This 8-year-old boy, from a humble background in Penfield, N.Y., woke his rela...tives early Monday morning as a fire burned through his grandfather's trailer home. Six escaped, but Tyler went back into the burning home to rescue his uncle and grandfather, an amputee. Tyler's body was found in a position indicating he was trying to help his grandfather escape. As of Wednesday morning, a page set up on YouCaring.com to pay for Tyler's funeral has raised more than $5,100. People who knew Tyler, when they heard, said they were not surprised by what he did. If heaven exists, we assume its inhabitants welcomed Tyler with open arms.

What's so odd about the new 29-foot tall statue of Nelson Mandela? Take a close look in one of its ears. Tucked inside, there is a bronze rabbit, sitting on its haunches with one floppy ear, and about half the height of the ear canal.
South... African officials want the miniature bunny removed from the statue, which was unveiled outside the government complex in Pretoria, the capital, on Dec. 16, a day after Mandela's funeral.
The sculptors said the rabbit represented the pressure of finishing the sculpture on time because "haas" - the word for rabbit in the Dutch-based Afrikaans language - also means "haste."
Should the little bunny stay? Or, should the artists, well, hop to it and remove it?

The Circassians are fro...m the North Caucasus region, though many were scattered around the world by a 19th century military campaign led by the Russian Tsars. A number of Circassians have campaigned against the Sochi games, saying the events will be taking place among the graves of their ancestors. As Armenians have called for broader recognition of the Turkish genocide against their people, so are Circassians calling for the killings of theirs to be classified as genocide. In this photo, two men are depicted in Circassian traditional dress.
