Notes: "Alt. Fuel Capable" vehicles are those with the capability of being converted to use propane or natural gas. This data does not confirm if the vehicle ever completed a conversion.
"undefined" values are vehicles with unidentified fuel types.
Data consists of registered vehicles in operation in the United States of America.
Electric drive trains (EVs, Hydrogen, PHEVs and HEVs) experienced the greatest growth during the timeframe depicted on the graph. Propane, methanol, alternative fuel capable vehicles, and dedicated ethanol vehicles declined during the same period. Annual increases are more volatile for vehicle fuel types with small populations, such as methanol and hydrogen vehicles. See relative vehicle population sizes at AFV Registrations , On-Road AFVs Made Available by Year, U.S. Plug-in Electric Vehicle Sales by Model, and Energy Information Administration's.
