Postdoctoral Research Awards: Investing in Innovative Clean Energy Technologies

The Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) Postdoctoral Research Awards offer unique research opportunities to highly talented Ph.D. recipients to engage in innovative research at universities, national laboratories, and other research facilities that are conducting applied research in support of EERE. Awards are designed to advance the development of clean energy technologies in energy efficiency for buildings, industry and vehicles; and renewable energy. The 2016 awards focus on solar energy research.

The EERE Postdoctoral Research Awards will provide participants with opportunities to continue their education and training and to become interested in long-term research goals in areas related to energy efficiency and renewable energy.

Emphasis on a research mentoring approach provides opportunities for participants to become integral members of research teams, to increase their chances of successfully completing their research plans, and to make significant contributions to EERE Programs. Participants will benefit from the experience and guidance of dedicated researchers in their proposed field. Participants are expected to dedicate 80% of their time to a research core project and 20% of their time to an innovation project. This 80/20 approach to the research plan is critical to encourage the new ideas and concepts needed for the development of cutting-edge technologies.

The recipients of the EERE Postdoctoral Research Awards will be invited to participate in the SunShot Grand Challenge Summit in 2018 and interact with the DOE SunShot community.

The EERE Postdoctoral Research Awards are administered by the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) in collaboration with EERE. ORISE is responsible for the implementation of the program, processing applications, the review and notification processes, and the management of payments to participants.
