Geographic Information System (GIS)

The use of GIS in the natural resource field has become increasingly important. The ability to view resources on a landscape level greatly improves the management of those resources. We as managers can visually see the interaction of resources with human impacts and natural phenomenon. GIS also allows use to model various aspects of natural resources' biological functions. These models can help avoid the degradation of resources along with providing sound alternatives to human/natural resource conflicts. A good example of this is the North Dakota Endangered Species/PesticideManagement Program.
