Waste & Response
Mentors:
At ITEP, we know how helpful it can be for tribal professionals to learn directly from one another. While ITEP’s waste and response staff are
here to help you, we also coordinate a variety of mentor activities where you can work directly with another tribal professional who has dealt
with challenges you may be currently facing. As part of our mentor work we can:
Provide you with the contact information of another tribal professional who may be able to assist you with your work. This could be
developing a tribal Integrated Solid Waste Management Plan, creating an efficient and cost-effective recycling program, crafting new strategies
for public outreach, or addressing any issues you may be facing in brownfields, UST, or Superfund programs.
Provide you with the opportunity to actually visit another tribe, or have a technical expert visit your tribe, and spend a few days working
with a colleague to learn directly from new techniques to assist your programs. Currently this on-site mentoring activity is specifically
for those tribal professionals working in solid waste. If you are interested, you can fill out the application below. If you are selected and
visit another tribe, you will have all your travel expenses covered by ITEP.
This quarter’s Onsite Mentoring applications are now open. Applications are due by February 3, 2017: Click HERE for on-site mentor application. [msword]
ITEP and the Tribal Pollution Prevention Network (Tribal P2) are joining forces to help tribal professionals searching for peer to peer assistance
with pollution prevention, source reduction, and waste diversion strategies. In addition to ITEP’s peer to peer matching assistance and on site
mentoring opportunities, we encourage you to visit the Tribal P2 peer map below, where you can find peer support to advance your pollution prevention
programs in over 20 different areas, including solid waste, recycling, composting, greening casinos, and greening tribal offices to name a few.
To access the many Tribal P2 peer resources, simply click on the map below. (Helpful hint: By checking the boxes titled "Tribal",
then "Peer Collaborators", then the area of expertise you are most interested in, you can narrow your search on the Tribal P2 map.)
