Did you know that NGEN is a contract and not a network?
The award of the Next Generation Enterprise Network (NGEN) contract June 27, 2013, was a critical step in moving enterprise information technology for the Navy and Marine Corps forward. The NGEN contract will enable the Department of the Navy to save about $1 billion over the next five years. The DON achieved these savings through market competition to deliver quality IT solutions at far lower cost.
For the large majority of Navy Marine Corps Intranet (NMCI) users, the NGEN contract doesn't mean changes in their everyday IT environment – because the network and its functions won't be changing under NGEN. End users will continue to work via NMCI. They should contact the NMCI Service Desk at 1-866-THE-NMCI, or servicedesk_Navy@nmci-isf.com if they need assistance.
