Science Excellence

Dave Scott

Dave Scott is the new Science Integrity Officer for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. He is responsible for helping to implement DOI’s Scientific Integrity policy by serving as an ombudsman for staff with questions and concerns and by conducting formal investigations on allegations of scientific misconduct as warranted.

Previously, Dave served as the Assistant Regional Director for Migratory Birds and State Programs in the Service’s Midwest regional office where he, and his staff, addressed a variety of migratory bird issues through science, monitoring, permitting, and habitat conservation largely in partnership with the Midwest’s conservation community. Dave’s staff also administered Wildlife and Sport Fish Restoration grants to eight state fish and wildlife agencies and he was the co-chair of the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes Landscape Conservation Cooperative.

Prior to joining the Service, Dave served as the Wildlife Section Chief at the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. He holds degrees in Wildlife Management from The Ohio State University (BS) and Penn State University (MS), is an alumnus of the National Conservation Leadership Institute and coached Cohort 14 of the Service’s Advanced Leadership Development Program (ALDP).  He is located in the Southeast Regional Office.

Dave credits his passion for wildlife and the outdoors to his childhood exploring farm fields, woodlots and creeks near his Ohio home, and hunting and fishing with his father and grandfather.
