 NRCS Earth Team: Making a Difference on OR Farms, Ranches
PORTLAND, Ore. - On this Earth Day, farms and ranches across Oregon are getting land and wildlife conservation ideas and assistance from a group known as the Earth Team.
It's the Natural Resources Conservation Service volunteer organization, made up of 15 people in Oregon who put in about 1,200 hours a year. They do research, give presentations on soil health and help with wetlands and grazing-management projects.

Clerical Assistance in Southern Oregon
Recently retired from the Earth Team program, Linda Town faithfully served the Medford Service Center as a part-time receptionist from 2008 through 2014. Generally working three days a week, Town logged over 3,000 hours during her tenure.
Soil Health Team Reaps ETV Benefits
In 2015 Carl Evans joined the Soil Health Team as an Earth Team Volunteer for spring! With a strong background in field soil science and experience working in conservation in northeastern Washington Carl brought boots-on-the-ground ready skills to Oregon NRCS. Carl’s primary duty was assisting with the ambitious, joint OSU-Region 1 Soils-Oregon NRCS Microbe Map project. He was responsible for locating, identifying, and collecting soil samples as part of the team assigned to southwest Oregon. He also assisted Cory Owens with various Soil Health Committee tasks.
In 2014 the Soil Health initiative has garnered assistance from Megan McGinns, to assist with outreach. As part of this effort, she developed a series of graphics and articles for the Soil Health Team.
