Australia's Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) and NREL researchers are validating a plug-and-play microgrid control solution. This technology helps hybrid microgrids to automatically recognize when solar power is available and prioritize its use over other power sources.

The intermittent nature of solar power can make it challenging to effectively incorporate it into electric grids, including microgrids. CSIRO's newest technology in microgrid controllers is helping to solve that problem by managing output from various power sources in real time in order to maximize the use of solar power when it's available.
