The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) was established in 1975 to set up and promote MMR (Mumbai Metropolitan Region) as a destination for economic activity by boosting infrastructure development and improving the quality of life. In order to integrate the concepts and strategies of sustainable development into the MMR’s 3rd Regional Plan 2014-34 (RP) developed by the Planning Department of MMRDA, TERI and MMRDA signed a Memorandum of Understanding in 2010 to work in collaboration on green buildings, transport, and environment.
As per the estimates from the UNICEF, children from un-electrified households spend fewer days at school as compared to those living in electrified households. To address this issue, Power Grid and TERI partnered to facilitate clean energy access to school going children in rural areas of Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha. Activities conducted under this project facilitate the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan of the Government of India.
As a part of the Hi-AWARE consortium, TERI is the country lead for India, focusing on conducting research activities in the Upper Ganga and Teesta Basin.
TERI has recently completed a GNESD-funded project that aimed to analyse the rural electrification program in India and its achievements, with a special focus on the co-benefits and productive usage of electricity in line with the "Energy Plus" approach.
The challenges faced by the world in general and India, especially with respect of energy, water, and food sectors, are increasingly becoming inter-linked. Subsequently, strategies for tackling one or the other aspect of these integrated challenges would require consideration of critical aspects of managing demand and supply of energy, water, and food in a manner that ensures security in each of these.
TERI-SBH initiative 'Back to Earth' engaged children into creative thinking and helped in developing their competence in waste management, through various innovative educational and outreach components like books, educational kits, learning material, and brainstorming sessions.
The OASYS South Asia project implemented by TERI and a consortium of research partners aimed to develop a systematic analysis and research foundation to find appropriate local solutions for sustainable rural electricity supply.
TERI, Practical Action Consulting, and Institute of Development Studies of the UK have recently completed a DFID-funded project that aimed to understand the links between electricity access, productive uses of electricity, and poverty reduction.
TERI had signed the MoU with IOCL on January 24, 2013 to implement the project entitled "Introducing the concept of Nutri-gardens to address rural malnutrition by involving KSKs (Kisan Seva Kendras)" in the tribal regions of Thane district.
