August 2002 - Peninsula Light Company (PLC), an electric cooperative serving about 26,000 consumers in Gig Harbor, Washington, is offering a new program through which member customers can purchase green power in 100-kWh monthly blocks for an additional $2.80, or 2.8¢/kWh. To supply the GreenChoice program, PLC has committed to purchase 10 average megawatts (aMW) of Environmentally Preferred Power from Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) for five years. The power will come from the Foote Creek Rim wind project in Wyoming and the Packwood Lake hydro project in Washington. A portion of the wholesale green power payment will go to the Bonneville Environmental Foundation to support the development of new renewable energy facilities in the Pacific Northwest. In addition, PLC will use 25% of the green power revenue to support environmental education programs and the development of local renewable resources.
All Washington utilities that serve more than 25,000 meters are required by state law to offer green power options to their customers.
