May 2014 - Southern Company subsidiary, Southern Power, partnered with Turner Renewable Energy to acquire New Mexico's largest solar facility, 50-megawatt Macho Springs Solar Facility. The facility has just been completed by First Solar and is the second-largest renewable energy acquisition undertaken by the partnership. Once operational, the facility is expected to provide enough power for approximately 18,000 homes. All electricity will be sold to El Paso Electric through a 20-year power purchase agreement.

June 2001 - El Paso Electric, which serves customers in southern New Mexico and west Texas, announced that its Texas-based customers now can participate in the Renewable Energy Tariff Program. Residential customers can purchase 100-kWh blocks of wind power for an additional $1.92 per month, or 1.92¢/kWh, while commercial customers will pay $3.04 per month. The wind power will be supplied from two, 660-kW turbines located at Hueco Mountain Wind Ranch near Horizon City, Texas. Customers must agree to participate for a minimum of one year.

January 2001 - El Paso Electric announced that it will contract for the output from two, 660-kW wind turbines to be built in West Texas and offer the energy to its customers as an optional service. The green pricing program, which will allow customers to purchase the wind energy in 100-kWh blocks, is expected to be in place by the end of the year. The proposed wind energy tariff was not announced and is subject to regulatory approval.
