Montana NRCS Partnerships
The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is the federal agency that works hand-in-hand with the people of Montana to conserve natural resources on private land. Formerly the Soil Conservation Service, NRCS brings more than 80 years of scientific and technical expertise to the partnership.
Montana Association of Conservation Districts (MACD) is the state organization for 58 local conservation districts across the state. Conservation districts are local units of government responsible for the soil and water conservation work within their boundaries. The districts’ primary roles are to increase voluntary conservation among farmers, ranchers and other land users, and to provide leadership in helping communities address local conservation issues.
Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation, Conservation and Resource Development Division (DNRC-CARDD) provides assistance to conservation districts in carrying out natural resource programs. In addition to providing administrative, legal, and technical services for conservation districts, DNRC manages grant programs for reclamation projects, natural resource development, soil and water conservation, watershed planning, engineering services, and conservation district operations.
USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) administers and manages farm commodity, credit, conservation, disaster and loan programs as laid out by Congress through a network of federal, state and county offices.
