The World Energy Engineering Congress (WEEC), the largest energy conference and technology expo for business, industrial, and institutional energy users is almost here. Starting Wednesday and running through Friday, September 21 to 23, energy leaders are coming together in Washington D.C. to hear presentations from top industry experts, attend training seminars, explore new technologies and services, and participate in workshops.

As part of the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Better Buildings Initiative, Better Plants will be a silver-level sponsor for this year’s event and will lead a conference track on Better Plant and SEP subjects. Attendees will have the chance to hear from Advanced Manufacturing Office (AMO) experts in The Better Plants Program (Better Plants) track of the conference. Attendees can register for Track J: The Better Plants Program to hear four informative panel sessions that will highlight success stories, lessons learned, and best practices in energy management:
- Value of ISO 50001/SEP – Led by Paul Scheihing, AMO Technology Manager, the panel includes industry experts from Detroit Diesel, Volvo, and 3M.
- Onsite Generation Makes Cents – Led by Jay Wrobel, AMO Technical Assistance Program Manager, the panel includes industry experts from Legrand North America, The Dow Chemical Company, Toyota Motor Manufacturing, and Volvo Trucks.
- Water & Wastewater Treatment Energy Efficiency – Led by Robert Lung, AMO Industrial Technical Assistance Fellow, the panel includes industry experts from Fort Motor Company, General Motors Company, Electrolux, and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.
- Smarter Data/Smarter Business – Led by Eli Levine, manager of the Better Plants Program, the panel includes industry experts from Eastman Chemical Company, Lockheed Martin, TE Connectivity, and Johnson Controls.
In addition, conference goers can stop by the Better Plant booth (#339) on Wednesday and Thursday to see innovative technologies, including Oak Ridge National Laboratory’s (ORNL) ultrasonic dryer, a high magnetic flux processing display, super hydrophobic materials, and AMO’s Dynamic Manufacturing Energy Sankey Tool.
Attendees can also look forward to receiving a Better Plants program progress update, recognition of goal achievers and new partners, and most exciting of all, the WEEC closing keynote speech delivered by Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz.
