In September, the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) Climate Corps and the Better Buildings Initiative co-hosted a local peer networking event in New York City, bringing together Climate Corps host organizations and Better Buildings partners. Through a series of facilitated discussions, attendees shared their energy efficiency experiences – successes, strategies, and obstacles. Over 40 NYC professionals representing local government, commercial real estate, affordable housing and more, participated in the roundtables addressing topics of local and national interest including energy efficiency in leased space, NYC’s energy benchmarking and disclosure laws, and renewable energy in NYC.

EDF Climate Corps, also a Better Buildings Affiliate, is a clean energy fellowship program which recruits and trains graduate students for summer placements in energy management positions with organizations across the country and abroad. The complementary missions of Climate Corps and the Better Buildings initiative were highlighted in the implementation model, Student Fellowships To Kickstart In-House Energy Programs developed by Shorenstein Properties LLC, a Better Buildings Challenge partner and long-time Climate Corps host organization.

Thanks, New York City, for a lovely evening!
