Estonian Environmental Research Centre is a state-owned company specialised in water, air and soil analysis, lab analysis of raw materials and products, management of environmental projects, environmental impact assessment and audit, research and development, environmental consulting and training, hazardous waste analysis and handling, and providing customs lab services.
Chemical and physico-chemical analysis of surface water, ground and waste water, and rain water. Assessment of performance of water treatment plants and environmental impact of accidents. Determination of volatile organic compounds by chromatographic methods. Determination of heavy metals and alkali metals by atomic absorption spectrometry. Sampling for analysis.
Measurement of ambient air pollution in cities, townships and near larger companies. Measurement of pollutant emission rates at sources of emission. Air Quality Management Department carries out measurement of pollutant emission rates at different emission sources (boiler houses, factories, fuel stations etc). Pollutant dispersion calculations, pollution maps.
Ozone Bureau of the EERC inspects leaks of ozone-depleting substances and greenhouse gases. We determine the type of ozone-depleting substances in fire-extinguishing and cooling systems and separate them from halons and coolants. We collect, store, dispose of or reclaim ozone-depleting substances. We also set up training for cooling and fire fighting specialists.
We check soil for hazardous substances, like petroleum products, chlorinated organics (PCBs, pesticides), phenols, heavy metals. We carry out geotechnical studies, including measurement of physical and mechanical properties of soil of build-up area, according to different methodologies. We sample soil up to a depth of 6 m, even at locations inaccessible to heavy drilling equipment.
Determination of additives in alcoholic drinks. Determination of inorganic (heavy metal) and organic compounds (pesticides etc) in foods. All foods: chlorides, total nitrogen, moisture, dry matter, ash, fat, PCB-s, organochlorinated pesticides, heavy metals (Ag, Al, Ba, Ca, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Mg, Mn, Mo, Na, Ni, Pb, Sb, Se, Sn, Tl, V, Zn). Alcoholic beverages and fused oils.
We check the quality of liquid fuels at our Fuel Testing Laboratory. We do analyses and conformity assessment of liquid fuels - petrol (EVS-EN 228), diesel fuel (EVS-EN 590), fuel oils, biodiesel fuel and ethanol E85. On request of Ministry of Environment we carry out national fuel monitoring and compile fuel quality reports for European Commission.
Our Environmental Chemistry Department tests the quality of surface water, ground and drinking water, measures pollutant content in waste water and soil, does chemical analyses of rain water, analyses accident-related pollution, and also food quality. If necessary, the lab also introduces new test methods. Analysis deadlines are flexible and take into account client's needs.
