General Information

The Apache trout is a species of freshwater fish and is a member of the Salmonidae family. Feeding preferences depend on size. Fish 6-9cm long primarily feed on Ephemeroptera, whereas fish 15cm and larger utilize more Trichoptera, and terrestrial insects are eaten by all size classes. The Apache trout is the state fish of Arizona, and is one of only two species of trout native to that state (the other being the gila trout).
