| As part of the agency's efforts to develop Water Quality Standards (i.e., legal criteria to control levels) regarding algae in streams and waterways in West Virginia, a study was conducted for the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to assess the impact of algae levels on pubic recreational water use, such as swimming, fishing, and boating. A statewide telephone survey of West Virginia residents was conducted to obtain this data. A portion of this study entailed assessing respondents' reactions to images of seven levels of algae cover on West Virginia waters to determine the public's threshold for algae. | ||
