Does EIA publish data on peak or hourly electricity generation, demand, and prices?
The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) has a new U.S. Electric System Operating Data tool that provides nearly real-time demand data, plus analysis and visualizations of hourly, daily, and weekly electricity supply and demand on a national and regional level for all of the 66 electric system balancing authorities that make up the U.S. electric grid.
Some Independent System Operators (ISO) or Regional Transmission Organizations (RTO) in North America publish data and charts with real-time or hourly generation data by type of fuel or energy source. The ISO/RTO Council (IRC) has links to the websites of its members.
Peak summer and winter demand for individual utilities are available in the Operational Data file of the EIA Form 861 database files.
EIA does not publish hourly electricity price data, but it does publish wholesale electricity market information including daily volumes, high and low prices, and weighted-average prices on a biweekly basis.
