What We Do: We clean up hazardous waste sites, provide for emergency preparedness and homeland security, and respond to oil spills. We also restore abandoned land to a usable condition and prepare for and prevent chemical emergencies.

Water Division

What We Do: We support a variety of water programs and initiatives within an area crossing the Great Lakes, Upper Mississippi River, Ohio River, Missouri River, and Red River Basins and encompassing the States of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin, as well as the 35 Federally recognized Tribes located within this area.

Office of Regional Counsel
Regional Counsel: Leverett Nelson
What We Do: ORC provides legal advice to the Regional Administrator and other senior managers on all matters relating to their official responsibilities. ORC represents the Region in judicial and administrative enforcement actions against regulated entities within the jurisdiction of Region 5. ORC is also responsible for the defense of Regional officials for actions taken pursuant to their responsibilities under the statutes and regulations governing their programs.

What We Do: The goal of the Region 5 enforcement program is to promote compliance with federal environmental laws. Successful implementation of the federal enforcement program provides a deterrent to non-compliance and contributes to the Region 5 mission of protecting human health and preserving natural resources.
