Near the southernmost port on the Chesapeake, students aboard the 40 ft. jet drive field investigation boat Jenny S. explore the Elizabeth and James Rivers and learn about the relationship between the land, the rivers, and the Bay. The Chesapeake Bay Foundation's Hampton Roads program offers students a floating classroom to explore local waterways and deepen their knowledge of the Chesapeake Bay. Participants explore rivers and tributaries, sample aquatic life, and perform simple water quality tests. They learn about the effects of human activities on the estuary, local ecosystem health, and system dynamics. Through hands-on activities, students discover how water quality is degraded by our actions and learn what we can do about it.

Groups may select from one of four locations: Newport News, Norfolk, Portsmouth or Virginia Beach.  Beginning in Spring 2015, Virginia Beach programs will run from the dock at CBF's newly opened Brock Environmental Center:  http://www.cbf.org/brock

Program Capacity: Up to 30 people (including chaperones), grade 4 and older.
