TO SERVE YOU BETTER…

Yampa Valley Electric is embarking on a communications and technology plan that will bring us into the 21st century.  New and updated versions of your mobile devices are released every year, yet the current electric grid is more than 74 years old.  As we work to modernize and upgrade the electric grid, we want to give you a better understanding of the steps we are taking to accomplish this.

Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) has existed in one form or another since the mid 1980’s.  Initially, and for many subsequent years, it was simply a more efficient way to conduct monthly meter reading, reduce costs for reads and improve billing.  AMR is a one-way limited system.

Today, the collection of monthly meter reads is just the tip of the iceberg.  Current two-way Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) systems allow near-real-time communication between our offices, meters, and system protection devices on the electrical system, enabling close oversight of system operations and a wider variety of customer program offerings.

YVEA has chosen Landis + Gyr, (L&G) as the vendor to support our Advanced Meter Infrastructure, (AMI) project.  We have chosen the area that will encompass the pilot project of 500 meters in late fall.  Members that fall within the projected test area will be receiving automated phone calls prior to the AMI changeover.  When you receive the notification, please let us know if you do not want to participate in the project.

YVEA is very excited about our partnership with L&G on our AMI project.  L&G is a worldwide leader in metering technologies and will allow YVEA to grow with them as we make improvements to our electrical infrastructure.  This partnership will also allow us to better serve you – our members with real-time information that will improve our reliability, response and service quality.

Each month as we work to modernize and upgrade the electric grid, we want to give you a better understanding of the steps we are taking to accomplish this.

APRIL/MAY 2016 UPDATE

Yampa Valley Electric Association, (YVEA), completed phase I, or our pilot portion of our Advanced Metering Infrastructure, (AMI) project at the end of December 2015 with much success!

In April we will begin our next phase with deployment of AMI meters to our members on the West side of Steamboat, Milner and surrounding areas that receive power from our Airport Substation.

Next we will deploy meters to our members who reside in the downtown area, including Old Town, Brooklyn and Fairview that receive power from our Brooklyn Substation.  We will finish the summer of 2016 with deployment in South Routt – Keystone Substation, in order to reach meters that are sometimes not accessible during the winter.
