Advisory based on mercury.
Fish
Fish are nutritious and good for you to eat.
- Fish are an excellent source of protein and most are low in saturated fats.
- Fish contain omega-3 fatty acids that can reduce your risk for heart disease and improve how the brain develops in unborn babies and children.
- But some fish you catch may take in toxic chemicals from the water in which they live and the food they eat.
- Some of these chemicals build up in the fish - and in you - over time.
- Check our Fish Advisories for help on how to pick the best fish for you and your family.

The recommendations for each fish species are based on levels of mercury measured in fish from Lake Gregory in San Bernardino County.
OEHHA developed an advisory for coastal waters of California, excluding enclosed bays and coastal areas with existing advice, because of mercury and PCBs found in the fish caught from these areas.
This fish advisory provides safe eating advice for three dozen species of fish across hundreds of miles of the California coast from the Oregon border to Mexico.
