Emergency Support Function #12 – Energy (ESF-12), under the National Response Framework (NRF), is an integral part of the larger DOE responsibility of maintaining continuous and reliable energy supplies for the Nation through preventive measures and restoration and recovery actions.

ISER maintains a cadre of trained emergency responders who are able to rapidly deploy during national emergency declarations to areas where the energy infrastructure has been severely damaged. This established team of responders applies technical and emergency management expertise in an effort to overcome the challenges inherent in complex U.S. energy systems. OE has also assigned dedicated personnel to each of the ten regional offices of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to organize and coordinate these activities on behalf of the Department.
