December 2011 - The Village of Oak Park, Illinois, is initiating a 100% green powered community choice program for its residents and small businesses, which is expected to launch in January 2012. Community choice aggregation enables local governments to aggregate electricity demand within their jurisdictions in order to procure alternative energy supplies while maintaining the existing electricity provider for transmission and distribution services.
Oak Park's Village Board approved a two-year contract with Integrys Energy Services to supply 100% renewable energy certificates for the program. Customers who enroll in the community choice aggregation program will save about 25 percent compared to the current state-approved electricity rates with ComEd, Oak Park's existing electricity provider.

September 2003 - The City of St. Charles has become the first utility in Illinois to offer a green pricing program to its customers. In partnership with ComEd and Community Energy Inc., the municipal utility is offering residents and businesses the ability to donate a fixed monthly amount, which will be used to purchase renewable energy certificates from ComEd. The certificates represent the output of local renewable energy projects, including landfill gas and a 51-MW wind project to be constructed just north of Peoria and completed in 2004.

June 2001 - The City of Chicago and 48 local government agencies have selected ComEd to supply 10% of their aggregated electricity needs with renewable power. Under the agreement, ComEd will increase the percentage of green power supply to 20% after five years, representing 80 MW of annual renewable power capacity from sources such as wind, solar, small hydro, and landfill gas.
ComEd's profits from the sale of green power to the City will go into a Reinvestment Fund, which will be used to help attract and develop new renewable generation within the area. ComEd will administer the fund through the Environmental Resources Trust, a Washington D.C. based auditing group that also will substantiate and track ComEd's green purchases.
April 2000 - ComEd and the Environmental Resources Trust (ERT), a non-profit, environmental organization, have teamed up to offer the first wholesale renewable power product in Illinois. ComEd is selling the product, called EcoPower, through the APX Midwest Market. Electricity suppliers purchasing "green tickets" through the APX Market can use the EcoPower label in their retail marketing.
At present, Ecopower consists entirely of power generated from landfill gas facilities. However, ComEd plans to add other renewable resources, such as small hydro, wind and solar, to the Ecopower portfolio in the future. Profits from the sale of the EcoPower product will be used to finance the development of new renewable resources in Illinois through a fund to be administered by ERT.
