March 2008 - Duquesne University announced that it is buying green power for all of its purchased electricity needs. Under an agreement with Strategic Energy, the university is purchasing 8 million kWh of Green-e certified renewable energy credits (RECs) for use at its Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania campus. The university generates about 85% of its electricity with natural gas and also contracts with an independent provider of wind power. Through its recent purchase of RECs from Strategic Energy, Duquesne brought its total REC purchases to 12.4 million kWh, ensuring that 100% of its purchased outsourced energy is renewable.

March 2008 - Tarrant Regional Water District (TRWD), which supplies water to more than 1.7 million people in north central Texas, announced that it is purchasing green power for a portion of its electricity needs. Under an agreement with Strategic Energy, the Fort Worth-based water agency is purchasing 11.7 million kWh of renewable energy certificates (RECs) to match a portion of its electricity needs over the next three years.

February 2007 - Office Depot, a retail provider of office products and services, has cracked the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Green Power Partnership's list of the nation's Top 10 retail green power purchasers. Office Depot currently purchases 76 million kWh of green power in the form of wind and biogas renewable energy certificates (RECs) under an agreement with Cadence Network, Inc. The purchase represents 12% of the office supply company's total annual electricity usage.

October 2004 - The State of Pennsylvania will triple the amount of wind energy it purchases as a component of a plan to obtain 10% of its electricity needs from in-state energy sources. Under four-year contracts with Community Energy Inc. and Strategic Energy, LLC, the state will purchase 100 million kWh annually, or 10% of the state government's electricity needs, from wind energy (35%), waste coal (10%), and low-impact, run-of-river hydroelectric energy (55%), at an average rate premium of 0.34¢/kWh.

April 2003 - Strategic Energy LLC, a Pittsburgh-based competitive electricity supplier, announced that 57 Kinko's stores in Texas will purchase wind energy from the company to meet a portion of their electricity needs. The stores will use the cost savings realized from switching to Strategic Energy as their electricity supplier to offset the additional cost of the wind power. Under the multi-year agreement, Kinko's is expected to buy about 1.6 million kWh of renewable energy annually.
