December 2013 - Public Service Electric and Gas Company (PSEG) has recently announced that it is partnering with the NFL Environmental Program to provide green power for Super Bowl XLVIII. PSEG will purchase and retire enough renewable energy certificates (RECs) to match every megawatt-hour (MWh) of electricity used to power the event. The total electricity to be offset by PSEG's donations will include electricity used to power Met Life Stadium, both team's hotels, and the public event in Times Square known as Super Bowl Boulevard. The RECs are being purchased locally from New Jersey generators including PSE&G's Kearny Solar Farm and from Community Energy Inc., a certified Green-e Supplier.

February 2012 - Eastern University (PA) has partnered with Community Energy to extend its 100 percent green power commitment for seven years. The university has purchased 100 percent of its electricity from wind renewable energy certificates (RECs) since 2006 and is now committed to purchase 100 percent green power through at least 2018. Community Energy will supply a portion of the university's renewable energy generation through solar RECs from a 6-megawatt solar facility in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, which the marketer plans to build in 2012.

October 2010 - Drexel University has agreed to purchase more than 84 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of wind power, enough to meet 100 percent of its electricity needs. June 2010 - Cascades Tissue Group has nearly doubled its previous annual green power purchase commitment and is now purchasing 20 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of wind energy, which is equivalent to 100 percent of the electricity used for the production of its North River line of commercial towel and tissue products. The renewable energy certificates (RECs) will be sourced from the MidAmerican Energy's Charles City Wind Farm located in northern Iowa and supplied by Community Energy, Inc.

January 2010 - The Natural Resources Defense Council and the Alliance for Clean Energy New York announced Green Power NYC, a new website that allows New York City residents and small businesses to purchase renewable energy. From the site, consumers can select their desired type of clean power and energy provider and fill out a form to make the switch to renewable energy. The site was developed with funds donated from the Wolfensohn Family Foundation.

Currently, the site offers renewable energy options from two suppliers: Sterling Planet and Community Energy.

November 2009 - Curtis Packaging Corporation announced that it has purchased renewable energy equivalent to 100 percent of its energy use. Under an agreement with Community Energy, it is purchasing more than 6 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of renewable energy certificates annually. October 2009 - Regis University announced its campus is now purchasing wind energy equivalent to all of its electricity needs. Under a two-year agreement with renewable energy marketer, Community Energy, the university will purchase more than 11 million kWh of renewable energy certificates (RECs) sourced from wind energy projects.

July 2009 - eSA Solutions, a business technology provider specializing in digital printing, announced that it is purchasing carbon offsets to match their emissions from central heating, employee travel, and fleet vehicle use. Under the agreement with Community Energy, Inc., the company will purchase 130 metric tons of Green-e certified carbon offsets from U.S.-based wind farms.

April 2009 - Parsons Brinckerhoff (PB), a global infrastructure developer and operator, announced that it is purchasing wind energy for 100% of its electricity use at its corporate headquarters in New York City. February 2009 - Velocity Print Solutions announced its commitment to purchasing green power for 100 percent of its energy use in 2009. The Pavilion is the first development in DuPage County, Illinois to pursue Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver Certification as recognized by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). July 2008 - Cascades Tissue Group, the fourth largest producer of tissue paper in North America, announced the purchase of 11 million kWh of Green-e certified renewable energy certificates (RECs). The wind energy purchase offsets 100% of the energy required to manufacture the company's North River brand commercial towel and tissue products, the first such products to be manufactured with 100% renewable energy. Community Energy, Inc. will supply the RECs to Cascades.

The North River line of products is made from 100% recycled fiber with a majority of post-consumer material, using a chlorine free process. Cascades Tissue Group complies with the requirements of the Sustainable Manufacturing and Marketing Initiative guidelines, including a reduction in energy use for its manufacturing facilities.

June 2008 - Colorado Springs Utilities (CSU) is now offering its customers renewable energy certificates (RECs) in 100 kWh increments at a price of 34¢ each, or 0.34¢/kWh. When a customer signs up under the program, CSU retires the requisite quantity of RECs on their behalf. The REC program comes in response to strong customer demand for renewable energy; CSU's green pricing program is currently sold out.

The program is being supplied by a five-year REC contract between the Western Area Power Administration (WAPA), on behalf of CSU and other utilities, and Community Energy, Inc. The RECs are derived from national sources of wind and geothermal energy.

November 2007 - Allegheny Power announced that it has filed an application with the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission to offer a wind energy program to its customers in the state. Under the proposed program, consumers could purchase green power sourced from wind farms located in Pennsylvania and other areas of the country. Residential, commercial and industrial customers will be able to participate in the program at various levels, with costs starting at $2.50 per month above standard electricity rates. October 2007 - Governor Edward G. Rendell announced that Pennsylvania is increasing the percentage of renewable energy it purchases to run state government operations. Under a modified contract with Community Energy Inc., the state will purchase 277 million kWh of renewable energy annually from wind (57%) and hydroelectric (43%) sources. The new purchase is equivalent to 28% of the state government's electricity needs, up from 20% last year. October 2007 - Montgomery County (Penn.) commissioners announced that the county will purchase wind energy equivalent to the electricity needs of all of its facilities, making it one of the largest municipal purchases in the country. Under an agreement with PECO and Community Energy, the county will purchase more than 29 million kWh of wind energy certificates through the PECO Wind program, joining more than 7,300 county residents and 115 area organizations and businesses that participate in the program. September 2007 - ING, a global financial institution of Dutch origin, announced that it has committed to purchase wind energy for 100% of the electricity it uses for its U.S. facilities. ING has announced a goal of becoming carbon-neutral by the end of 2007, which it plans to achieve through its green power purchase, increased energy efficiency, and offsetting all remaining CO2 emissions through reforestation projects. January 2006 - The Massachusetts Renewable Energy Purchasers, a program of the Center for Resource Solutions and Think Energy, announced that eight Massachusetts-based businesses and institutions have come together to purchase more than 20.5 million kWh of Green-e certified green power. Community Energy, Inc. will supply the group with renewable energy certificates sourced from wind farms in New England and across the nation.

The purchasers include: Amherst College, the John Merck Fund, Mount Holyoke College, Oak Foundation, PerkinElmer Optoelectronics, Sasaki Associates, Inc., Smith College, and the University of Massachusetts Lowell.

November 2005 - The Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) announced a commitment to purchase renewable energy for all its electricity needs. Under the agreement, DEP facilities will collectively purchase 7.6 million kWh of renewable energy annually through the CTCleanEnergyOptions program, adding an estimated $125,000, or about 10%, to the department's annual electric bill. The purchase will be split evenly between the two clean energy suppliers participating in the program, Community Energy and Sterling Planet.

The DEP purchase represents the largest institutional clean energy purchase since the CTCleanEnergyOptions program was unveiled in April 2005, and will help the state achieve its 20% renewable electricity purchase goal for state agencies and universities for 2010. To date, about 5,500 Connecticut customers have enrolled in the program.

November 2005 - Customers of Consolidated Edison Company of New York (Con Edison), a regulated utility which provides electricity in nearly all of New York City and most of Westchester County, can choose among green power options supplied by four providers. November 2005 - The City of Boulder, Colorado announced that it exceeded its goals for a recent campaign designed to increase the number of residents and businesses purchasing green power. During the roughly two-month "Wind Power Challenge," 1,150 customers signed up to purchase wind power from local renewable energy suppliers, far exceeding the campaign's goal of 500 new subscribers. When combined with the more than 5,700 pre-existing green power customers, about 16% of the city's residents and businesses now purchase green power. Collectively, these purchases represent nearly 5% of the community's total electricity needs.

Due in part to the success of the challenge, which was sponsored by the city and local non-profit Western Resource Advocates, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Green Power Partnership has designation the city a "Green Power Community," making Boulder the first community in Colorado to receive this distinction.

October 2005 - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the Center for Resource Solutions (CRS) honored a group of organizations committed to advancing the development of green power markets in the United States. The annual Green Power Leadership Awards, recognizing leading national green power purchasers and suppliers, were presented on October 24 at the Tenth National Green Power Marketing Conference in Austin, Texas.

EPA and DOE presented awards for green power purchasing to 29 organizations. October 2005 - The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities announced the start of a new program through which the state's retail electric customers can purchase renewable energy without switching electricity suppliers. Under the CleanPower Choice Program, residential and business customers can enroll by checking a box on their utility bills and selecting from among renewable energy products offered by four marketers: Community Energy, Green Mountain Energy Company, Jersey-Atlantic Wind, and Sterling Planet. The program began October 1 in the PSE&G and JCP&L service territories and will expand to Atlantic City Electric and Orange & Rockland Utilities in April 2006. The products available through the program are as follows:

Community Energy is offering a blend of wind (50%), low-impact hydro (49%), and solar (1%) at a rate premium of 1.3¢/kWh.

Green Mountain Energy is offering a blend of wind (50%), and small hydro (50%) sourced in the region at a premium of 0.9¢/kWh.

Jersey-Atlantic Wind is offering a blend of New Jersey-based wind (50%) and low-impact hydro (50%) at a premium of 2.9¢/kWh. The company is also offering a 100% New Jersey-based wind product in 100-kWh monthly increments for $5.50, or a premium of 5.5¢/kWh.

September 2005 - Community Energy, Inc. is now offering renewable energy certificates (RECs) for sale to Colorado residents and businesses. The company's NewWind Energy product will be sourced from Colorado wind energy projects and offered to residential customers in 100-kWh increments for $2.00, or a premium of 2¢/kWh, and to commercial customers for 1.2¢/kWh. Initially the RECs will be supplied from a 7.5-MW project located near Lamar, Colorado. In the future, the company plans to add RECs from school-based wind projects in rural Colorado to the resource mix. Community Energy recently contracted with the University of Colorado at Boulder to supply 8.8 million kWh of RECs for three student-run buildings.

In addition, Boulder-based Clean and Green is offering a Green-e certified REC product sourced from municipal and community-based wind energy projects located nationwide. May 2005 - Students at the University of Colorado (CU) at Boulder are now purchasing enough wind-generated electricity to offset 100% of the electricity needs of the three student-run campus buildings. In the spring of 2000, students voted by a 5 to 1 margin to increase fees by $1 per semester for four years to purchase wind power, which was enough to supply about 30% of the annual buildings load. When the referendum expired in 2004, students passed new legislation calling for 100% wind power. Lower market prices for wind energy have allowed CU to increase its purchase from 2 million kWh to 8.8 million kWh annually at only a slightly higher total cost. CU is now buying its wind energy from Community Energy, Inc., with half of the wind energy supplied from a wind project located in southeast Colorado and the other half from the upper Midwest.

April 2005 - Six Long Island municipalities in Suffolk County are purchasing more than 8 million kWh of wind energy annually through the LIPA Green Choice Program in partnership with Community Energy, Inc. Through the program, the communities of Southold, East Hampton, Riverhead, and Shelter Island, and both the Town of Southampton and Village of Southampton are using the green power to meet some or all of their municipal electricity needs. April 2005 - The Pennsylvania Consortium for Interdisciplinary Environmental Policy (PCIEP), in partnership with wind energy marketer Community Energy, Inc. (CEI), announced that nine Pennsylvania-based colleges and universities have increased their wind energy purchase commitments. To date, 34 PCIEP members are collectively purchasing 92.2 million kWh of wind energy, which constitutes the largest non-governmental aggregated commitment to wind power in the United States.

Schools that have recently increased their purchases as part of the Consortium's "Getting to 10% Wind" campaign include: Eastern University, which now purchases wind energy equivalent to 32% of its electricity usage, Dickinson College (12%), the University of Pennsylvania (10%), Juniata College (10%), Allegheny College (10%), Chatham College (10%), Duquesne University (10%), Keystone College (10%), and Mercyhurst College (10%).

Other schools purchasing wind energy include Drexel University (8%), Franklin & Marshall College (7%), Carnegie Mellon University (6%), Gettysburg College (5%), and Penn State University (5%).

March 2005 - ConEdison Solutions and the New York City Economic Development Corporation (EDC) announced an agreement under which the EDC will purchase 3.7 million kWh of wind energy annually for two city-owned industrial centers in Brooklyn: the four-million-square-foot Brooklyn Army Terminal and the one-million-square-foot Bush Terminal. The wind energy will be supplied under a wholesale agreement with Community Energy, Inc. and sourced primarily from the 30-MW Fenner Wind Power Project, which is located east of Syracuse, NY.

March 2005 - The Connecticut Department of Public Utility Control (DPUC) announced that Georgia-based Sterling Planet and New York City-based Community Energy have been selected through a competitive bidding process to provide renewable energy options for customers of the state's two major utility companies, United Illuminating and Connecticut Light and Power. Under the new program, which will begin on April 1, customers will have the option to purchase green power from either of the two providers to meet 50% or 100% of their electricity needs.

The Sterling Planet product is sourced from new wind (33%), existing small hydro (33%), and new landfill gas generators (34%) at a premium of 1.15¢/kWh over standard offer service, which would cost the average residential customer an additional $5.75 per month for the 100% option. February 2005 - OfficeMax Inc., one of the nation's largest providers of office supplies and services, announced that it is offering its North American business customers a 100% post-consumer recycled paper manufactured with wind power and certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). The paper is also made without the use of chlorine and chlorine compounds.

Mohawk Color Copy 100% Recycled Paper is manufactured by Mohawk Paper Mills, the only U.S. mill using wind energy in its paper-making process. In August 2003, Mohawk Paper Mills entered into a contract with Community Energy, Inc. to purchase four million kWh of wind power annually for its manufacturing facilities. February 2005 - Eight Illinois-based distribution cooperatives served by Prairie Power generation and transmission cooperative are offering their customers a wind energy purchase option. In partnership with Community Energy, Inc., a national retail marketer of wind-generated power, the co-ops have unveiled the EcoEnergy program, through which customers can purchase renewable energy certificates (RECs) supplied from the 54.5-MW Crescent Ridge Windpower Project located near Princeton, IL. The product is available in increments of 200 kWh, 300 kWh, or 400 kWh at a rate premium of 3¢/kWh. The charge will appear on the monthly bill of participating customers, who must agree to enroll for a minimum of one year.

The eight electric cooperatives offering the program are: Coles-Moultrie, Shelby, Eastern Illini, Rural Electric Convenience, Menard, Spoon River, McDonough Power, and Adams. Collectively, the utilities serve about 65,000 retail customers.

December 2004 - Community Energy, Inc. and the New Jersey Audubon Society announced that they have reached an agreement that will allow Community Energy to move ahead with development of a 7.5-MW wind farm near Atlantic City that will serve its green power customers in New Jersey and surrounding areas. Under the agreement, the organizations will conduct a detailed study using new radar technology to better predict how the wind turbine towers may affect bird migration. The agreement settles an appeal filed by the Audubon Society regarding issuance of a Coastal Area Facility Review Act permit for the facility, which would be the first wind generation project to be built in the state.

November 2004 - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has expanded its use of green power by committing to purchase 100% green power to match the electricity needs of its Federal Triangle complex and the building which houses its Office of Air and Radiation in Washington D.C. On behalf of EPA, the General Services Administration entered into a three-year contract with Community Energy and Pepco Energy Services to purchase 44.8 million kWh of renewable energy certificates (RECs) annually for the Federal Triangle complex, starting in October 2004. The RECs will be supplied from wind facilities (25%) in Waymart, PA and Thomas, WV and landfill gas facilities (75%) located in the Mid-Atlantic region. In addition, the Defense Energy Support Center (DESC) signed a separate three-year contract on behalf of EPA with Old Mill Power Company to purchase about four million kWh per year of RECs for the Office of Air and Radiation, starting in June 2004. The RECs will be supplied from a wind farm in Meyersdale, PA.

With these purchases, EPA now procures about 203 million kWh of green power annually, representing 70% of its national electricity needs.

October 2004 - The State of Pennsylvania will triple the amount of wind energy it purchases as a component of a plan to obtain 10% of its electricity needs from in-state energy sources. Under four-year contracts with Community Energy Inc. and Strategic Energy, LLC, the state will purchase 100 million kWh annually, or 10% of the state government's electricity needs, from wind energy (35%), waste coal (10%), and low-impact, run-of-river hydroelectric energy (55%), at an average rate premium of 0.34¢/kWh.

Under a five-year agreement with Community Energy, Inc., the city will purchase 2.9 million kWh annually at an extra cost of $43,750, or approximately 1.5¢/kWh. The power will come from the 30-MW Fenner Windpower Project located in Madison County, NY. Saratoga Springs is one of 24 municipalities in the state that purchase wind energy.

August 2004 - The Long Island Power Authority (LIPA), a municipal utility that serves nearly 1.1 million electricity customers on Long Island in New York, announced that its LIPA Green Choice Program is now open for enrollment. Under the program, LIPA customers can purchase renewable energy attributes through one of the three participating green power marketers—Community Energy, EnviroGen, or Sterling Planet. The green power options are supplied from sources such as wind, hydro and biomass and range in price from 1¢/kWh to 2¢/kWh above standard electricity rates. LIPA will apply the green power surcharge to the standard monthly electricity bills of participating customers.

Participants can change their initial selections or discontinue participation in the program at any time. LIPA will be supporting the program with a public education campaign that will include inserts in monthly billing statements, a Web page, and newspaper advertisements.

June 2004 - Whole Foods Market, a natural and organic foods supermarket chain, announced that it is purchasing wind energy certificates for 10% of the electricity used at its 28 stores and facilities in the North Atlantic Region, covering Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey. Under an agreement with Community Energy Inc., the company will purchase 5.2 million kWh of wind energy annually generated from new wind energy projects located in the Eastern United States. Combined with an earlier wind energy purchase for its Mid-Atlantic stores, Whole Foods is now buying a total of 11.2 million kWh of wind energy annually for 54 stores in the East.

Later this year, the two companies plan to launch an in-store educational campaign to inform Whole Foods customers about the benefits of wind energy and how to purchase wind energy for their homes.

May 2004 - An aggregation of Maryland city and county agencies led by Montgomery County announced that it has signed a contract with Washington Gas Energy Services and Community Energy, Inc., to purchase wind energy to meet 5% of the group's combined electricity usage. Under the two-year deal, the buying group, which includes six County agencies, 11 municipalities, and Prince George's County, will collectively purchase 38 million kWh of wind energy annually sourced from the 66-MW Mountaineer Wind Energy Center in West Virginia.

Montgomery County has included the wind energy purchase as a control measure for ozone pollution in a "State Implementation Plan" (SIP) for air quality improvement, which was recently submitted for approval to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

October 2002 - Community Energy announced that it is partnering with Washington Gas Energy Services (WGES), an affiliate of Washington Gas, to offer wind energy to Capital-area businesses and residents.

The two companies also announced that they are supplying wind power to the U.S. Army, Catholic University, and the National Geographic Society (NGS). The Army purchase is equivalent to the entire power output of one, 1.5-MW wind turbine and will serve a portion of the electricity needs of the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Fort McNair, and Adelphi Labs. Catholic University is also purchasing the equivalent output of one turbine, which will provide about 12% of the university's power needs. The NGS purchase will account for about 5% of the electricity needs of its D.C. headquarters.

September 2002 - Niagara Mohawk, which serves 1.5 million electricity customers in upstate New York, has unveiled a new program allowing residential and commercial customers to purchase electricity generated from renewable energy sources. Under the program, customers can choose to purchase green power products offered by three providers—Community Energy, Inc., Green Mountain Energy Company, and Sterling Planet. Participating customers will not switch from their regular utility service but will see a green power surcharge appear as a line item on their utility bills.

Community Energy is offering a 50% wind/50% hydro product for 1.3¢/kWh that would supply all of a customer's electricity needs. The Green Mountain Energy product, which is also designed to meet 100% of the customer's electricity needs, is supplied from 85% hydro and 15% wind, and priced at 1.5¢/kWh. Finally, customers can choose to meet 50%, 75%, or 100% of their electricity needs with the Sterling Planet product, which is supplied from 30% wind, 20% hydro, and 50% biomass, and priced at 1.5¢/kWh. All of the utility's residential and commercial customers will receive program information with their September bills.

April 2001 - PECO Energy Company announced that it will partner with wind energy marketer Community Energy Inc. to offer newly developed wind power to its 1.5 million residential and business customers in the Philadelphia area. Subject to rate approval by the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission, PECO plans to offer kilowatt-hour blocks of wind power to customers for about 2.5¢/kWh above standard offer rates. The wind energy will be supplied in part from two Pennsylvania wind farms scheduled to be operational later this year—the 15-MW Mill Run project, which is under construction in Fayette County, and the 9-MW Somerset Wind Farm to be built along the Pennsylvania Turnpike, west of Harrisburg.

March 2001 - A consortium of companies and organizations announced that they will partner to build a 15-megawatt (MW) wind energy project in Fayette County, Pennsylvania that will provide a new source of green power to the state's competitive electricity market. The Mill Run Wind Project will be built by Atlantic Renewable Energy Corporation and marketed to retail customers by Community Energy, Inc.

The Mill Run project is the second, large commercial wind project to be constructed for Pennsylvania's competitive power market — Green Mountain Energy Company dedicated a 10.4-MW project last spring. The new project will be partially funded by ratepayers through the Sustainable Development Fund, which was created in the 1998 PECO restructuring settlement and expanded in the recent Unicom-PECO merger order.

November 1999 - A coalition of non-profit and for-profit companies is offering a green power product, Pennsylvania Wind Energy, to businesses in the Philadelphia area. Community Energy, Inc., a new member-owned, non-profit company formed by the Clean Air Council and the Land and Water Fund of the Rockies, will market the wind power. Conectiv Energy, which already offers a green power product in the state's newly competitive electricity market, will manage the power delivery and provide customer support. Energy Unlimited, Inc. of West Conshohocken, PA is constructing two, 65-kW wind turbines to supply the program. The turbines will be located at the Humboldt Industrial Park, southwest of Hazleton, PA.

Pennsylvania Wind Energy is targeting business customers and will sell the wind power in blocks of 400 kWh per month. The price charged for the green power will depend on the number of blocks purchased. Given the state's competitive market, it may be possible for a business to purchase wind energy to meet a portion of its power needs and still save money off the default electricity rate.
