U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service Urban Program Grant Availability

Through the  Five Star & Urban Waters Restoration Program 2017, the USFWS Migratory Bird Program was able to accept proposals for projects related to the Urban Bird Treaty program.

Approximately $180,000 is available to fund projects that engage urban citizens in bird conservation and foster a sense of stewardship. Priority areas include locations where there are existing Urban Wildlife Refuge Partnerships or established Urban Bird Treaty Cities with the Fish and Wildlife Service. Proposals should articulate tangible ways the Fish and Wildlife Service can become an asset to the community.

Urban Bird Treaty project proposals should have an emphasis on enhancing urban habitats for birds, engaging citizens in bird conservation, and connecting diverse and youth audiences to birds and bird conservation. Proposals should address the three Urban Bird Treaty goals (see: http://www.fws.gov/birds/grants/urban-bird-treaty.php).

More about the 2016 Centennial Celebration

The year 2016 marks the centennial of the Convention between the United States and Great Britain (for Canada) for the Protection of Migratory Birds, signed Aug. 16, 1916. The resulting Migratory Bird Treaty and the three others that followed, form the cornerstones of efforts to conserve migratorybirds that migrate across international borders. Throughout 2016, the Service will collaborate with partners to create awareness, promote actions, increase support and expand engagement in the conservation of migratory birds to celebrate the 100 years of migratory bird conservation and looks ahead to the next 100 years. http://www.fws.gov/birds/MBTreaty100/
