We monitor ambient air quality throughout the state using a network of monitoring stations to ensure that North Dakota’s air quality remains better than state and federal Ambient Air Quality Standards.

Dispersion Modeling

We support the development of the State Implementation Plan (SIP) and the permitting and air monitoring programs.

Permitting Program

We issue permits to construct for new and existing air contaminants emitting facilities, issues operating permits for minor and Clean Air Act Title V sources.

Oil & Gas

We register oil and gas wells, permit tank batteries, compressor stations, and other oil and gas production related facilities.

Regional Haze

Provides oversight and implementation of the Regional Haze Program as it pertains to affected North Dakota sources.

Asbestos

Enforces the Emission Standards for Asbestos under the North Dakota Air Pollution Control Rules. The Asbestos Control Program also licenses contractors and certifies workers for asbestos abatement activities.

The Asbestos Control Program audits and accredits asbestos training courses.

Indoor Air Program

Indoor Air Program provides information and technical assistance to the public concerning various indoor air quality issues.

Lead-based Paint

Ensures that lead-based painted material in Pre-1978 target housing and child occupied facilities are managed in a manner which minimizes exposure.

Certifies and licenses lead-based paint workers and trainers.

Radiation Control

Monitors the development and utilization of sources of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation in an effort to protect the health and safety of the radiation user and the general public.

Radon

The aim of the Indoor Radon Program is reduce North Dakota indoor radon levels to below the EPA's action level of 4 pico-Curies per liter (pC/L).
