Student Hiring Programs

Entry Level/Students

The Department of Energy (DOE) maintains a wide range of student-focused programs to keep a steady stream of bright and motivated new talent flowing into the DOE workforce. The Office of Nuclear Energy participates in these programs from time to time. Based on your own current circumstances and goals, you can explore the full range of opportunities offered by the DOE student programs, internships, and entry-level positions.

Summer Internship Opportunities

The Office of Science and Technology Policy is currently accepting applications for its Summer 2013 Student Volunteer Program. The application deadline is 11:59pm Friday, February 22nd. Students who are U.S. citizens and who will be actively enrolled during the Fall 2013 semester are welcome to apply.

About OSTP. The Office of Science and Technology Policy advises the President on the effects of science and technology on domestic and international affairs. The office serves as a source of scientific and technological analysis and judgment for the President with respect to major policies, plans and programs of the Federal Government.

About the Student Volunteer Program. Student Volunteers are accepted for one of three annual terms (Spring, Summer, or Fall), which each last no more than 90 days. While these positions are without compensation, the assignments provide educational enrichment, practical work experience, and network opportunities with other individuals in the science and technology policy arena.

Minority Education Institutions Student Partnership

The Office of Nuclear Energy participates in the Minority Educational Institutions Student Partnership Program, which helps the Department to develop and train students from Minority Educational Institutions, in the areas of science, engineering, business, policy, technology, and other energy-related areas, for future employment within the Department. The program recruits academically talented students from Minority Educational Institutions, including major research universities, small prestigious colleges, and designated minority serving colleges and universities and community colleges. The program is an eight-week long, summer internship and is open to full-time students of all majors above the freshman level who have at least a 2.8 cumulative grade point average. Students must be a U.S. citizen. Summer interns will be provided a stipend, professional development workshops, and travel and housing.
