25 Years of Epidermal Stem Cell Research

Join presenter Dr. Jeffrey Dunn as he speaks with Dr. Ruby Ghadially about the past 25 years of epidermal stem cell research. Understanding of epidermal stem cell biology has evolved rapidly as techniques to visualize distribution of stem cells and progeny have improved.  However, significant challenges remain, including defining molecular markers for stem cells, determining the locations and contributions of different stem cell niches, and mapping regulatory pathways of epidermal stem cell proliferation and differentiation.

NEWS

IID 2013: The International Investigative Dermatology (IID) Meeting, organized by the Society for Investigative Dermatology (SID), the European Society for Dermatological Research (ESDR), and the Japanese Society for Investigative Dermatology (JSID), will take place May 8-11 in Edinburgh, Scotland.  For more information, please visit the conference homepage.  Abstract submission for IID 2013 will close January 3, 2013.  Submit your abstract.  Register now

Milestones in Cutaneous Biology: Heritable disorders of skin structure lead to some of the most striking phenotypes.  While many of these conditions are rare, a molecular understanding of these structural diseases remains one of the true triumphs of modern dermatologic science.  Read more about the genetics of structural skin disorders featured in Milestones in Cutaneous Biology.

Intersociety Collegiality Awards: Readers of the JID are reminded of a series of awards available for SID, ESDR and JSID members to encourage participation of members of one society at one of the other society meetings.  This initiative is supported by the Boards of all 3 societies.  The objective is to promote the academic and international profile of "young investigators" involved in skin research.  To date, more than 20 awards have been made and the personal and career benefits are both rewarding and satisfying.  For further details, please refer to information posted on SIDESDR and JSID webpages.
