Tsukiji Fish Market Tuna Auction

Wednesday January 14, 2009
Tokyo Tsukiji Market Visitors have been banned from entering the tuna auction area in Tokyo Tsukiji Fish Market since last mid-December. Because watching tuna auctions is a popular attraction among foreign tourists, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government announced to reopen the tuna auction area again to the public from January 19th. It's noted that inappropriate behaviors have been observed in many visitors, such as using camera flashes, touching the fish, and so on. If you enter the wholesale area, please be careful not to distract market workers and enjoy observing the fish auctions, following the rules.

Manekineko - Japanese Lucky Cats

Friday January 9, 2009
Manakineko When I went to a shrine for hatsumoude in Japan, I bought a set of cute manekineko. Manekineko are cat-shaped Japanese lucky charms and are believed to bring happiness to us. There are many different colors and designs of manekineko at the vender, so I have chosen ones with cute facial expressions. It's said that manekineko raising the left hand beckons customers and one raising the right hand beckons money. I wish everyone all the best for 2009.
