Wendell McCurry Excellence in Water Quality Award

Wendell McCurry was a long time employee of the Division in the water programs and had a strong personal and professional commitment to water quality. During his 33-year tenure with the State of Nevada, Mr. McCurry had tremendous foresight and vision in the field of water pollution control and was a strong advocate of clean water for Nevada.

He established the State of Nevada water quality standards and NPDES permit programs that we continue to implement today. Mr. McCurry not only worked to advance water quality programs at the state level, but was prominent in the national arena as Nevada's representative to the Association of Clean Water Administrators where he was highly influential in shaping national water quality policies.

This award was established to honor the memory of Wendell McCurry who passed in January 2000. The award is made each year to recognize those individuals, firms, organizations, and governmental entities that have made significant contributions to improving the quality of Nevada's water resources.

• 2013 — CARSON CITY, Nev. – The Nevada Division of Environmental Protection (NDEP) presented its annual Wendell McCurry Excellence in Water Quality Award to Dr. Susan Donaldson on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 in recognition of her extensive and enduring contributions to water quality in Nevada.



• 2012 — The Nevada Division of Environmental Protection presented its annual Wendell McCurry award to Tim Rowe at a ceremony in Carson City, Tuesday, December 4, in recognition of Rowe’s contributions to water quality protection and education in Nevada



• The 2011 award to Dan Kaffer -- CARSON CITY – Mr. Dan Kaffer, longtime employee of the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service in western Nevada has been recognized by the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection (NDEP) for his outstanding commitment to water quality.



• The 2010 award was given to Mr. Lew Dodgion of Carson City for his longstanding commitment to water quality as Administrator of the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection (18 years) and member and Chairman of the State Environmental Commission (8 years).



• The 2009 award was given by Allen Biaggi, Director of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, and Leo Drozdoff, Administrator of the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection to the Washoe County Board of Commissioners



• The 2008 Wendell McCurry Excellence in Water Quality Award was given to Roland Westergard for his lifetime of dedication to the protection of the state’s precious water resources.



• The 2007 Wendell McCurry Excellence in Water Quality Award was given to Chris Freeman in recognition of his leadership and collaboration with Conservation Districts to protect and improve water quality and watershed health throughout Nevada.
