Excess Uranium Management

On July 19, 2016, the Department issued a Request for Information on the effects of DOE transfers of excess uranium on domestic uranium mining, conversion, and enrichment industries. The Request for Information established an August 18, 2016 deadline for the submission of written comments. On August 1, 2016, the Department extended the comment period to September 19, 2016.

2016 Advanced Sensors and Instrumentation Webinar

The Nuclear Energy Enabling Technologies Advanced Sensors and Instrumentation program, in coordination with the Office of Nuclear Reactor Technologies and the Office of Fuel Cycle Technologies, conducted an Instrumentations and Controls webinar on October 12-13, 2016. This webinar provided an opportunity to review the research and development being conducted in the areas of sensors, controls, communications, digital instrumentation, human-machine technologies, and related areas across the Office of Nuclear Energy (NE) and to promote greater coordination among the various NE Research & Development programs.

DOE SMR Workshop - The Pathway to SMR Commercialization

The Office of Nuclear Energy held a workshop entitled "Pathway to Small Modular Reactor (SMR) Commercialization" on June 22-23, 2016 in North Bethesda, MD. The workshop was an industry-focused event that sought to identify a collaborative, public-private path forward to achieving the deployment of SMR technologies in the next decade.

FY 2016 Advanced Methods for Manufacturing Program Review Meeting

The Advanced Methods for Manufacturing (AMM) program held its annual review meeting on October 18-19, 2016 in Germantown, Md. The purpose of this meeting was to review the currently funded projects encompassing additive manufacturing, welding and joining technologies, concrete materials and rebar innovations, surface modification and cladding processes, and imaging techniques for design reconstruction.

Private ISF

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) requests information regarding private initiatives (PI) for making consolidated interim storage facility (ISF) services available to DOE for spent nuclear fuel (SNF) storage, whether a pilot-scale or larger-scale facility. DOE believes that potential host/neighboring communities, potential ISF operators and existing nuclear waste facility operators, among others, may be interested in responding to this RFI.

2016 ANNUAL DOE-NE MATERIALS RESEARCH MEETING

The Reactor Materials element of the Nuclear Energy Enabling Technologies (NEET) program conducted its FY 2016 coordination meeting as a series of two web-conferences to act as a forum for the nuclear materials research community. The purpose of this meeting was to report on current and planned nuclear materials research, identify new areas of collaboration and promote greater coordination among the various Office of Nuclear Energy (NE) programs. Although each program has unique materials issues, there are opportunities to enhance coordination and collaboration. The presentations from this two part webinar series are available here.
