Ozone Sensitive Species:

The species selected for use in the ozone biomonitoring program are relatively common across a variety of forest types, they are relatively easy to identify and distinguish from similar species, and they are ozone sensitive based on a combination of field evidence and causative fumigation experiments. All of the eastern and western species were recently identified as good bioindicators by a panel of experts (http://www2.nature.nps.gov/air/).
