ONLINE COVER Choreographing a New Routine to Treat Cancer. The image shows different treatments for glioblastoma, an aggressive brain tumor, and the way that these treatments interact with each other. Mathios et al. evaluated the effectiveness of anti–PD-1 immunotherapy given before or after local or systemic chemotherapy in mouse models of glioblastoma. Combining local chemotherapy with immunotherapy was effective, whereas systemic chemotherapy did not combine well with anti-PD-1 treatment. The combination was ineffective when systemic chemotherapy was given first, the way it is often done in the clinic, suggesting the need for more systematic design of combination therapy strategies.
