Partnerships and Projects
Clean Cities' efforts span from state and local, to national collaborations. Over the years, partnerships and projects have significantly increased the availability of alternative fuels and infrastructure, and enabled a growing number of fleets to choose alternative fuel vehicles (AFVs). The program has awarded nearly $400 million in matching funds through U.S. Department of Energy funding opportunities and leveraged resources to help communities lay the foundation for more than 500 alternative fuels and vehicle projects.
National Efforts
At the national level, Clean Cities collaborates with federal agencies, fuel providers, industry associations, equipment manufacturers, and large companies whose vehicle fleets operate in multiple states.

National Clean Fleets Partnership
Large private-sector fleets that operate in multiple states work hand-in-hand with Clean Cities to reduce their petroleum consumption.
National Parks Initiative
Clean Cities partners with the National Park Service to support the use of renewable and alternative fuels, electric drive vehicles, and other advanced transportation technologies at national parks across the country. These efforts help improve air quality and promote the use of domestic energy resources.
Advanced Vehicle Technology Competitions
Clean Cities, the U.S. Department of Energy, General Motors, and Argonne National Laboratory work together to provide a forum for university students to demonstrate their innovations in transportation.
Local Efforts
At the local and regional level, Clean Cities coalitions build partnerships and participate in projects with stakeholders in communities across the country.

Clean Cities Funded Projects
Clean Cities has funded hundreds of projects, which lay the foundation for communities to adopt alternative fuels and petroleum reduction strategies.
Coalitions
Nearly 100 coalitions form the core of the Clean Cities program and serve as local champions for petroleum reduction in communities across the country.
Stakeholder Engagement
Clean Cities partners on a national scale with industry to convene stakeholders that share information and take on challenges specific to a particular fuel or technology.
