The Oregon Environmental Quality Commission appointed Richard Whitman, Governor Kate Brown's lead advisor on environmental and natural resource issues, to serve as the new interim director of the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality. Whitman's service begins at 12:01 a.m. on Oct. 15, 2016, and will end when the commission completes a nationwide search for a permanent director.
