SSC Pacific senior physicist honored with 2015 MAES Experto Tecnico Award

SAN DIEGO — The Navy’s Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center Pacific (SSC Pacific) is proud to announce that senior physicist Ayax Ramirez was recognized as the 2015 MAES Experto Tecnico Award winner at the Medalla de Oro and Bravo Awards Gala Banquet, Oct. 16, 2015 during the 41st Annual MAES Symposium in Las Vegas, Nevada.

MMAES (originally the Mexican America Engineering Society) is also known as the Society of Latinos in Engineering and Science. MAES is the foremost Latino organization for the development of STEM leaders in the academic, executive, and technical communities.

The Experto Technico Award recognizes individuals whose ideas become the basis for technological innovation. This award seeks to nominate individuals who push the envelope of technical achievement as distinguished by their research and development portfolio and professional and technical achievements as evidenced by patents and publications.

Ramirez is being recognized for his superior performance throughout his 18 years of government service. Ramirez is a leader in transitioning technologies to the fleet, highly respected mentor of new professionals, and advocate of diversity and outreach activities throughout the community. Ramirez has established a research summer program for community college students from Southwestern College, Chula Vista, California.

He has also consistently participated in "Shadow Day" for San Diego City Schools, which provides an opportunity for minority students to follow a professional to allow them to envision a technical career path.
