Set map options for apps

ArcGIS includes ready-to-use apps that you can use to view maps in web browsers, mobile devices, and desktop map viewers. Some of these apps have configurable capabilities that you can show or hide based on your map. These capabilities include routing, measuring, changing the basemap, tracking, finding places and addresses, and finding features within a layer. As the map author, you set these as application properties on the item page of your map.

  1. Create and save a map in the map viewer.
    Tip:

For Collector for ArcGIS, the map needs to include at least one editable feature layer.

  2. Open My Content and click the name of your map to view its item page.
  3. Click the Settings tab and scroll down to the Application Settings section under Web Map Settings.
  4. Select the settings to enable.
    Note:

The ArcGIS apps support some, but not all, of these settings. See the descriptions below for more information.

    • Routing enables users to get directions.

      Supported by Collector for ArcGIS.

    • Measure Tool enables users to measure on the map.

      Supported by Collector for ArcGIS.

    • Basemap Selector enables users to change the basemap.

      Supported by Collector for ArcGIS.

    • Track Location enables users to track where collectors went.

Supported by Collector for ArcGIS on maps that contain a hosted feature layer created from the Location Tracking template. To specify how often the location of the collector will be recorded, set a time frame for tracking in the drop-down list next to the Track Location property.

    • Find Locations allows users to find features within a layer or addresses in the map.

Supported by Collector for ArcGIS, Operations Dashboard for ArcGIS, and Explorer for ArcGIS.

      Tip:

Feature search within a layer is also supported by the map viewer.

Check options to find locations by layer, by address, or both, and enter a hint that appears in the search box. For Find Locations by layer, click Add Layer, choose the feature layer that contains the features you want to be searchable, choose the attribute field, and choose whether the result should contain or be equal to the search terms. The feature layer must have Query capabilities enabled and the field must be a string or integer without a coded domain. Add additional layers if you want.

  5. Click Save to update your map with the settings.
