Editor's Note

Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) has made safety a top priority since its inception more than 40 years ago.

This month's issue of Pacific Northwest Technology Today focuses on local and national developments in the area of safety and security as a result of the research taking place at PNNL and the efforts of our scientific experts managing the projects.

Not only is PNNL making the world safer and more secure, but it is also committed to doing the same on a smaller scale. "We want you to go home in the same condition you arrived," is commonly heard on the PNNL campus, and methods are in place to help all staff achieve that goal.

PNNL's National Security Directorate (NSD) recently reached a major safety milestone with 7.5 million staff hours worked without a lost or restricted work day due to injury. Given the diversity and complexity of NSD's work, this accomplishment is particularly impressive.

Read on to learn about cutting-edge technology being developed at PNNL to improve safety and security on a global level.
