Vessels moving in proximity to a renewable energy project.

Navigation

Water-borne vessels have traveled waterwaterways since early civilization for purposes of trade, fishing, travel, military, and recreation. Modern vessels vary in size from large supertankers with long-established routes to smaller fishing boats that follow the fish habitat. The addition of offshore wind or marine renewable energy projects may create new constraints for vessel routes, which could increase the risk of collision or allision. Storm events could also cause vessels to collide with energy devices on the water surface. Enforcing navigation measures around projects and siting projects with navigation in mind may help to reduce risk.
