The Pennsylvania State University won the top prize Wednesday night at the U.S. Department of Energy Collegiate Wind Competition, held in New Orleans. The award ceremony was the culmination of months of hard work by 12 student teams from across the United States and Puerto Rico, who competed to build a small-scale wind turbine that can provide off-grid power.
This was Pennsylvania State’s second Collegiate Wind Competition title since 2014. The University of Massachusetts Lowell took home second place honors, while Boise State University placed third.

The Collegiate Wind Competition provides undergraduates real-world skills they need to enter tomorrow’s clean energy workforce by challenging them to develop and deliver a business plan, establish a deployment strategy, and build and test a wind turbine.
