“My day-to-day can be quite varied, and can include performing data analysis on wholesale electricity market outcomes, assisting with the development of policy and regulations, and meeting with electricity market monitors. My grad program gave me a solid foundation in economics, statistical analysis, energy fundamentals, and written communication, all of which help inform the work I do every day. In my internship, I built on this foundation and began to understand many of the real-world complexities of the electric power sector. I feel fortunate to have chosen a field where my education continues every day when I come to the office.”

What advice would you give to students interested in an internship with FERC?

“My internship at FERC was a great opportunity to learn about the energy industry while improving my data analysis skills. I had some fantastic mentors in the Office of Enforcement and elsewhere within the Commission who were always available to answer questions or provide guidance when needed. Some background in the energy sector is helpful but not required. If you are new to the industry, I highly recommend reading the FERC Energy Primer . This will give you an idea of some of the unique challenges we face and enable you to hit the ground running.”
