DOE's Office of Building Equipment sponsored its first Fuel Cells Summit in April, 1997 to help ensure an effective and supportive environment for market-driven adoption of stationary fuel cell power plant technology. Very important aspects of this supportive environment will be building codes and standards that recognize fuel cells as a viable and safe buildings technology, and a knowledgeable and receptive buildings community. Without a favorable codes and standards environment, fuel cells will be extremely difficult to fully and successfully commercialize for stationary applications.

More than 60 individuals participated in the first Summit, representing manufacturers and suppliers, industry associations, Federal agencies, standards organizations, and utilities, among others. Since that time, attendance has doubled. Results from all Summits are available below.
