The Field Office Technical Guide (FOTG) is the primary scientific reference used by NRCS in conservation activities. This guide is now available on-line as the electronic Field Office Technical Guide (eFOTG).

Current National NRCS Standards and Specifications (NHCP)

AgriMet
AgriMet (AGRIcultural and METeorology) is a satellite-based network of automated agricultural weather stations in the Pacific Northwest operated and maintained by the Bureau of Reclamation and supported by other agencies, including NRCS.  Over 50 weather stations in Idaho, Washington, Oregon and Montana collect and transmit the weather data required to model crop water use.  This site contains information to help irrigators, agricultural consultants, and irrigation districts use the data to manage irrigation water supplies.

Conservation Planning Forms, Assessments and Quality Criteria
It is recommended that you download each of the forms you plan to use and save them in a directory you can easily find in the future.

Ecological Sciences/Technical Resources
The following information provides easy access to National and State Technical notes, eFOTG references, and other resource information and supporting data applicable to each technical discipline.

Electronic Government
Business opportunities, Technical Service Provider Registry, USDA Online Service Centers and USDA Customer Statement.

Idaho Maps
In order to assist field personnel with their daily tasks, Idaho NRCS has produced a set of maps depicting a variety of themes at the state-wide level.  In some cases different versions of the same theme (such as elevation) are also available.

Idaho OnePlan
One plan provides data and software to help growers develop a single conservation farm plan that can be pre-endorsed by the various agencies, streamlining and simplifying the regulatory process that farmers face.

Idaho OnePlan is a multi-agency project to combine government regulations and current best management practices for agriculture into a single plan, integrating federal, state, and local regulations for:

  • Nutrient, Pest and Waste Management
  • Water Quality and Wetlands
  • Air Quality
  • Financial Assistance
  • Endangered Species
  • Petroleum Storage Tanks

Rapid Watershed Assessments (by 8-digit Hydrologic Unit Sub basin)
The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Idaho is in the process of developing Rapid Watershed Assessments (RWAs) to provide a natural resource snapshot and overview of each Idaho 8-Digit Hydrologic Unit.  The RWAs organize resource information into one document that local conservationists, units of government, and others can use to identify conservation opportunities and direct technical and financial resources to the appropriate sub basins.  They provide a concise description of the sub basins' natural resources, resource concerns, conservation needs, and ability to resolve natural resource issues and concerns.

Rangeland Landscape Toolbox – TNC
The Landscape Toolbox is a cooperative effort supported by The Nature Conservancy to provide rangeland tools to land managers and ranchers. Tools include: a collection of abstracts for current range research, State and Transition models, Ecological Site Descriptions, and a description of rangeland inventory methods. The most recent tool is an advanced carbon sequestration model, funded in part by the Idaho NRCS CIG program.

Soil Health
Managing for soil health is one of the easiest and most effective ways for farmers to increase crop productivity and profitability while improving the environment. Read our healthy, productive soil health checklist for growers (PDF; 935 KB) and learn what might be a part of your soil health management system.

Technical Service Providers - Idaho NRCS Opportunities
Technical Service Providers (TSPs) are individuals, entities or public agencies certified by NRCS and placed on the approved list to provide technical services to the agency's conservation program participants.  NRCS maintains quality assurance of TSP-completed conservation practices and services on an annual basis.
